Facebook Notes Tagging from Jesse Stay on Vimeo.
In this video, I go over a little trick you can use to gain exposure for your blog, or other content by using the tagging feature within Facebook notes. I’ve seen a few other bloggers do this, and I think it’s a clever way to gain the attention of some of those in your network that may be able to spread the word to a much larger audience than you are. It’s a very simple trick, and all you have to do (after you have set up auto-importing of your blog into Facebook Notes, the same way we did with Notes on Facebook Pages) is:
- Click on “Notes” on the left after logging into Facebook
- Click on “My Notes” in the upper-left
- Click on the Title of the Note you want to share
- On the right, there will be a box to enter names of those you would like to tag within the note. Pick anyone in your friends list, start typing, and select their name from the list. Do this with others if you see fit.
- Now, that friend will receive a notification telling them they have been tagged in a Note - all they need to do is click, and they will be reading your content, and can share it with anyone else in their network of friends!

Hey guys,
That is a great tool! I’ve got the import set for mine, but have had it re-set a couple of times. Make sure to check it periodically, as Facebook isn’t yet autopilot-friendly

I don’t see “notes” in listed anywhere. I’m new to Facebook and trying to learn all the options fast. So, is notes and application I need to add? If so, can anyone point me to a listing of the best Facebook apps for “spreading the word”.
Thanks in advance, you are providing a great service:)

WordPress Modder,
The “Notes” should come pre-added when you create an account on Facebook, so they should be there. They should be on the sidebar on the left when you click, “more” (or perhaps above the “more”). They look something like this:

Well, I guess images are disabled from the comments. If you look at the video you can see what I click on there.

Super nifty stuff, Jesse. (I’ve been lurking on here for quite some time.) When I first started importing my blog’s RSS feed, I was pleasantly surprised by Facebook’s RSS layout/styling/interface — it actually butchers my content much less than bigger aggregators like Google Reader (which, in lieu of the blog’s style sheet, make everything unstyled and awful).
I just wonder though at what point bloggers will start abusing the tag feature to the point of irking their friends and eventually getting Facebook to limit the use of this function. Aw well, I guess we wait and see.

Thanks, brainpicker. I agree - eventually it will get old if everyone start embracing it. It’s a good technique for now though. It will be interesting to see if more people catch on to it.

I posted a note on my company Facebook page, but there is no option to tag friends in the note? There is when I write a note on my personal page, but not on the company page. Help?

Great Video! Thanks for sharing.
I recently implemented this on a business page for facebook. Does facebook automatically receive the updates from my blog? If so how long does it take to post. In the past 24 hours, I have added new entries and a few comments to the blog, and it hasn’t updated on my facebook page. Perhaps I’m being impatient?
Thanks!
Jill
I’m very new to blogging! I’ve recently set one up for some friends of mine.
