Creating Facebook “Pages”

One of the most frequently asked questions we get from our Readers is, “How do you create a Facebook Page?”To set up a Facebook Page:
- In the Footer of Facebook, click on “Businesses”.
- Click on “Facebook Pages”
- Select the category for your Facebook Page - this is important that you get right, as it will determine the fields that are available to you for your Page. YOU CAN’T CHANGE THIS WHEN YOUR PAGE IS UP UNLESS YOU DELETE THE PAGE.
- Be sure to update your Page’s image and information.
- Click, “Publish Page” - Congratulations! You now have a Facebook Page!
- Now, go and import your blog into Facebook Notes for your Page.
Be sure to search for the terms, “I’m On Facebook — Now What???”, my Consulting agency, “SocialOptimize”, and my name, “Jesse Stay” - each one of those should return a Facebook Page in the results. Add yourself as a fan to each one of them!
Also, be sure to post your questions about Facebook on the Discussion Board at http://page.facebookadvice.com. In addition, I have added a new “reviews” widget to the Page which you can post reviews for the book - be sure to also post them on Amazon!

Jesse, great info. It seems so simple but there are little tricks like the ones you pointed out that help you avoid heartache (category is important as the content layout changes) A lot of new applications don’t work well even if they are supposed to be for pages especially in content playback of mp3s and in email registrations using FBML boxes.
But there is no question that the launch of facebook pages was a watershed for using facebook for business, and being able to measure results. I have built a number of pages (with tens of thousands of fans) and have learned how facebook pages and groups are different and similar. Now that facebook is “opening up” their platform, we’ll see what the future brings!

Thanks Frank - I’m glad it was helpful. Are there any applications you would like to see on Facebook Pages that you haven’t seen thus far?

What if you don’t have a “businesses” link in your facebook footer? I don’t..

Noel, it’s now under the “Advertising” link in the footer.
