1316947090_6812521383_o.pngBeth Kanter and I met over at Graphing Social Patterns this year. I was running late to the lunch and happened to sit down at a table I saw Rodney Rumford at. I introduced myself and Beth happened to be at the table. She asked if she could give a book away on her blog, and interviewed me briefly. She posted a great review of the book today (yes, that’s my big head in the close-up!), and announced the free giveaway of “I’m On Facebook–Now What???”.

Beth is an expert in how non-profits can use Social Media. She has done an amazing job promoting her charity, the Sharing Foundation, which helps route out poverty among Cambodian children. This is a cause I strongly support, having been a missionary in Thailand for 2 years in a province right near the border of Cambodia. While I was in Thailand, other fellow missionaries I knew in Cambodia would report of hearing bombs going off in the background, and even were forced to flee the country at one point in fear of their lives. The situation has somewhat calmed down over the years, but it has left a lot of people, especially children in the most poor of situations, many of them orphaned. These kids are a great cause to promote, especially using Social Media as a distribution medium!

“Beth’s Blog” is full of tips if you run a charitable organization on how you can use Facebook and other techniques to get the word out. Facebook itself is a great way to quickly spread and promote a cause and share ways to “change the world”. From the Facebook “Causes” application to “Takes All Types”, a blood donation and need assessment tool on Facebook, to the League of Young Voters that encourages young people to be politically active and get the vote out, Beth has reviewed them all. Beth herself is changing the world, one blog post at a time.

Here’s how to win the book - simply read Beth’s review about the book, then leave a comment in the post on how you think one can change the world using Facebook. Jason and I will then send the winning entry that Beth chooses from the comments and send them an autographed copy of the book. It’s that simple - through this blog and Beth’s, I am extremely anxious to see the creative responses you come up with! (Note, your comments must be on Beth’s blog, not this one to be qualified for the drawing!)
